Например, курс риторики основан не просто на изучении риторического канона. Ведущей функцией сегодняшнего языка СМИ является прагматическая функция, проще говоря, автор ставит перед собой задачу добиться от потенциального читателя / слушателя какого-то результата, используя языковые средства, аргументируя свою позицию, правильно составляя текст с точки зрения смысла и композиции. Задача же преподавателя – научить студента пользоваться этими приёмами. Очевидно, что это умение пригодится в любой профессии, в которой предстоит работать над выстраиванием логики и аргументации выступления, отстаивать свою деловую позицию (просто попробуйте представить, большое ли количество профессий не предполагает реализацию этого умения).
Кроме того, существует понятие «культурный background». Это фоновые знания, которые в большинстве своём проявляются как раз в речевой деятельности человека.
